NATO Deputy Secretary General thanks Azerbaijan for its partnership with the Alliance

Deputy Secretary General of NATO Mircea Geoana has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its partnership with the Alliance, especially for its participation in the operation in Afghanistan as he met with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

The Deputy Secretary General praised Azerbaijan's defense reforms and contribution to NATO missions.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on topical issues of the NATO-Azerbaijan partnership, future development prospects, as well as regional issues.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov hailed the results achieved in a number of areas of the Azerbaijan-NATO partnership. He touched upon the contribution of Azerbaijan to NATO operations in the context of supporting international peace and security. The FM informed the NATO official about the restoration and reconstruction work carried out by the government of Azerbaijan in the territories liberated as a result of the Patriotic War. As for the elimination of the factor of the occupation of the Azerbaijani lands, the minister emphasized that the country is ready to normalize relations with Armenia on the basis of the principles of international law.

The sides expressed their readiness to continue political dialogue and practical cooperation in accordance with the goals and principles of the Partnership for Peace Programme.
